A current travel guide for arriving from Bali to Nusa Penida with the boat, including Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud and the neighboring island of Lombok.

Have you been on Bali or Lombok and wonder how you come to Nusa Penida? In this travel guide I provide you with the current information.

I keep this article up to date all year round, so that he is still the latest transport guide to Nusa Penida from Bali and Lombok, which you can find online.

In summary, there are two ways to get to Nusa Penida from Bali and Lombok. This includes the independent option (for those who want to stay on the island) and the first -class daily excursion option that covers some of the best highlights from Nusa Penida and bring them back to Bali on the same day.

quick answer: How to go on a day tour from Bali to Nusa Penida

If you don't have the luxury of spending a few days on the island, you can also book an epic day tour from Bali. As expected, there are dozens of tour operators who offer excursions, but be warned that not everyone is the same!

I strongly recommend booking a day trip to Nusa Penida from a local company. My favorite is Four Elements, which offers several great excursions from Bali.

The two most popular day trips are the Adventure Tour and the Epic Tour. These include the best highlights of the Nusa Penida West Tour and the Nusa Penida East Tour like:

  • Angels Billabong
  • Pasih Ugg-Strand
  • Kelingking beach
  • diamond beach
  • thousand island-outside viewpoint
  • nusa Penida Baumhaus
  • Teletubbies hill
  • snorkeling excursion - swim with mantaroche

Arrival to Nusa Penida from Bali with the ferry (Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak)

For those who want to get from Bali to Nusa Penida, you should know that the quick ferries go to the islands from two locations.

  • The port city of Sanur - is located on the southeast coast of Bali, about 30 minutes from Kuta or 1 hour from Canggu.
  • The new port on Pemelisan Harbor - is also located on the southeast coast of Bali.

My recommendation for those who want to get to Nusa Penida from Canggu, Seminyak or Kuta is the booking of the quick ferry ticket on Klook, which goes from Sanur, as this includes a van/shuttle transfer to the port. This means that you do not have to think about the payment of a grave or taxis, which would make the independent option much more expensive in the end.

Here is the offer for a quick ferry to Nusa Penida from Sanur, which you can book online in advance. And below I also inserted the ferry timetable. This deal with Klook does not apply to a single boat, but enables you to select one of the speedboat ferries for the island at the cheapest price.

If you go to Sanur alone, you have to try to negotiate this price for a quick boat, which is the mistake I made during my first visit.

speedboat timetable

The fast boats from the port of Sanur Beach to Nusa Penida run 7 days a week according to the following timetable.
Alt = “Boat timetable from Sanur to Nusa Penida”> Online ticket valid for all boats
Note that the boats do not drive if the weather is too rough. This is a bit difficult to predict, but if you book at Klook in advance, you will either get your money back immediately or you can apply for a postponed departure.

This is one of the reasons why I suggest Klook to booking on the street.

What about Ubud?

The journey from Ubud to Nusa Penida is a little more difficult because the distance is much larger. At the moment, no tickets can be booked for the quick ferry, which contain a transfer to Sanur or to the port of Pemelisan.

However, you can organize the transport in Ubud to get to both ports. The journey takes about an hour, but can definitely be longer depending on the traffic. For transport options from Ubud to the port of Sanur, I recommend checking 12GO that gives you current times and prices for buses and taxis.

Alternatively, this full -day tour of Penida from Bali can be booked online and includes a transfer for a fantastic day on Nusa Penida by Ubud.

as it is to take the Nusa Penida boat from Sanur

I always drove from Bali to Nusa Penida via the port of Sanur. When I arrived for the first time, it was certainly a bit chaotic. Since I had not booked a ticket in advance, I was immediately surrounded by eager sellers who offered me pretty ridiculous prices.

I expected that in Bali, but negotiations turned out to be a real agony.

However, I was lucky the first time and chose the best boat, Sanjaya in my opinion. This boat is certain that the staff is very friendly and you can even get a coffee when you arrive. I have read good reviews about most quick boats, but this is that I have always taken and I can definitely recommend it.

If you are gone, you can expect a 45-minute drive from Sanur to Nusa Penida. The old "Slow Boats" no longer offer trips for tourists because they are quite dangerous and are even capsized in the past. Depending on the weather, you can expect a relaxing, picturesque boat trip or a wild roller coaster ride on the ocean!

Luggage limits for the Nusa Penida Boot from Bali

All quick boats seem to have the same policy. 2x bags with a total of 30kg. However, none of them weigh their bags. They stow them on the deck, covered with a large tarpaulin so that they don't get wet.

How do you get from Lombok to Nusa Penida?

Do you explore the incredible island of Lombok and are you looking for a way to get to Nusa Penida from here? In the past, this was a bit difficult and required a stopover in Gili Trawangan and/or Nusa Lembongan.

Since 2022 there has been a direct speedboat ferry from Lombok to Nusa Penida. This drives off the port of Bangsal (the same harbor where you take the boat to the Gili’s).

This boat is called Golden Queen Fast Boat and you can book it online at Bookaway for $ 32 for the 2.5-hour drive.
