Wonderful theater: Breaking Things & Repair Animals” conquers hearts!
On May 20, 2025, Christiane Ahlhelm and Lydia Starkulla will present the innovative piece “Zerspringding & Repairtier” in the Holzkirchner FoolsTheater. This fascinating theater experience leaves plenty of room for interpretation and challenges the audience's imagination. At the center of the plot is Gerda, played by Ahlhelm, who jumps around happily until her music box shatters and spoils her mood. At her side is the repair animal, a stuffed dog, played by Starkulla, who is initially unable to help Gerda because he lacks the means to alleviate her suffering.
The piece has no spoken words; it tells its story through facial expressions, movements and sounds. The clownish elements fascinate both children and adults. Together, Gerda and the repair animal embark on a search for a broken shard while moving through diverse landscapes represented by wooden triangles. The variable stage architecture enables dynamic storytelling, revealing to the audience that they can actively shape the narrative.
The journey to self-discovery
As the story progresses, Gerda's journey leads to the glowing balls that look like stars and symbolize the search for healing and friendship. Gerda feels that something has broken inside her and part of the shattering thing escapes. But the repair animal transforms and helps her recognize her internal injuries. This journey focuses on the power of the individual and the possibility of becoming whole again through one's own strength.
Gerda has to take the final step towards healing herself, supported by her faithful companion. This complex story is not only a haunting adventure, but also an invitation to confront inner longings and fears. The production impressively combines music, images and intense acting and remains almost entirely wordless.
Premiere and creative implementations
The premiere of “Zerspringding & Repairtier” took place on February 26, 2025 in BOSCO Gauting. Michl Thorbecke directed the film, while Sibylle Kobus designed the set and Anna Manz was responsible for the costumes. The musical accompaniment, which comes from Annegret Enderle, varies from a traditional music box melody to threatening tones and curious sounds, accompanied by a central red glow that is visually impressive.
The balanced mix of clownish and serious elements appeals to a broad target group and invites boys and girls as well as adults to engage with the topics presented. The ensemble, consisting of Christiane Ahlhelm and Lydia Starkulla, offers a unique theater experience that encourages you to reflect on your own inner world.
