Fireworks in a class of their own: Da Nang celebrates with 10,000 spectators!
On May 31, 2025, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2025 was held, organized by the Da Nang People's Committee in collaboration with Sun Group. At the opening of the festival, over 10,000 spectators flocked to the city to experience the spectacle under the motto “Da Nang – New Era”. This year the festival celebrates the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang and the reunification of the country.
The opening night was all about “Cultural Essence,” with host team Da Nang taking on defending champions JoHo Pyro from Finland. Da Nang impressed with over 5,000 fireworks programmed in sync with music and presented himself as a “storyteller with light”. The highlight of the performance was the iconic image of Ngu Hanh Son and the whale symbol that shone in the night sky.
Fireworks of cultures
JoHo Pyro offered a Nordic-inspired performance titled “Nordic Lights,” which combined elaborate fireworks displays with varied music. In addition, the well-known water cannon technique was used to create a remarkable auroral effect. To strengthen the connection with the Vietnamese audience, the song “Bong phu hoa” was played.
This year there was also something new: AR virtual reality technology was integrated into the festival area for the first time. The Sky AR project spans 600,000 m² and enables personalized visual experiences for viewers. This innovation is intended to make the experience even more intense.
Continuation of the festival
DIFF 2025 continues with five nights of competition from June 7th to July 12th, with teams from a total of ten countries taking part. Each team will compete under themes such as innovation, connectivity, technology and sustainability.
The festival aims to attract both domestic and international tourists. The entire event takes place along the Han Riverfront in Da Nang. During the competitions, which take place in the evening, visitors can explore the sights of Da Nang and neighboring cities such as Hue and Hoi An during the day.
The grandstand will seat approximately 17,000 and tickets will be available online. Prices vary from VNĐ 800,000 (approximately $35) to VNĐ 3,000,000 (approximately $130), depending on placement. Admission is free for children under one meter tall as long as they sit with their parents.
Tourists wishing to attend the festival should book their accommodation in advance, ideally close to the festival site. Popular attractions in Da Nang include Marble Mountain, Cham Sculpture Museum, Monkey Mountain, Linh Ung Pagoda, My Khe Beach and Dragon Bridge. Day trips to nearby cities are also recommended to enjoy the local culture and cuisine.
