Padar Island Hike - Best viewpoint at sunrise in Indonesia?

Padar Island Hike - Best viewpoint at sunrise in Indonesia?

undoubtedly you have already seen a photo of the iconic Jural landscape at the viewpoint of the Padar Island hike in the Komodo National Park. If you enter "Komodo Island" in Google, the picture will probably appear first.

From the summit you have a wide view over the island of Padar and can witness the famous colorful beaches that surround the island.

The Padar Island Hike

The Komodo National Park recently built a wooden path that makes the start of the hike much easier. From here it is only a short, but rather steep climb to several grass -covered viewing hills, from which you can enjoy different perspectives on the incredible island.

If you have a camera or even have little interest in landscape photography, the Padar Island hike will surely be its kind of adventure. I don't usually talk about a viewpoint that has already been photographed millions of times, but this place was so breathtaking that it is difficult not to scold. Maybe it is better to let the pictures speak.

The highest point at the Padar Island viewpoint is about 185 meters above sea level. The path is pretty steep, but does not require

Difficulty of the hike on the island of Padar

Yes, yes, but how long does the Padar Island hike last? Don't worry, the Padar Island hike is really not difficult and everyone with general fitness shouldn't have a problem. To reach the summit from the beach, it shouldn't take much longer than 20 minutes.

How do you get to the island of Padar?

The island of Padar is quite remote and therefore requires an organized boat trip to reach it. This applies in particular if you want to experience the viewpoint of the Padar Island hike for sunrise.

In the following I have described some of the most popular ways to reach Padar Island and how I came here.

How do you get from Labuan Bajo to Padar Island?

For those who are already in Labuan Bajo Flores, you have the opportunity to book a one -day boat trip or a multi -day boat trip with a departure from the main harbor. Unfortunately there are no public boats that drive to the island of Padar, so it is best to book an island hopping tour.

There are several of these island shopping tours in Labuan Bajo. To save money, it is advisable to organize these trips with other travelers. Depending on which tour you book, you get a quick (1.5 hours) or slow (3 hours) boat. Faster boats are generally better because they can spend more time on the islands.

Travel prices vary greatly depending on the season and demand. To save money and time, you can book this 4-island day trip with a speedboat that enables Padar Island hike.

Most day trips stop at other highlights of the Komodo national park such as Pink Beach, Manta Point, Komodo Island and Rinca Island. So if you plan to visit them anyway, you will save money when you drive on the same day. Read the updated national park fees below.

Arrival to Labuan Bajo-You can book a cheap domestic flight to Labuan Bajo (also known as Komodo-LBJ) with daily connection flights to Denpasar on Bali for $ 50 to $ 80. Here you can compare cheap flights to Komodo Airport on Skyscanner.

Padar Island National Park fee 2019

The different fees in the Komodo national park can really add up, especially if they plan to spend a few days to explore the area. The visit of Padar Island is quite expensive and requires 150,000 Rupiah to enter the national park.

I would recommend inquiring on your tour whether these fees are included before you agree on a price or booking. Below you will find a summary table of the fees and levies. You can find more here.

Entrance to the Komodo National Park (including Padar and Rinca): 150,000 rupiah per person
Entrance to the Komodo national park: (Sundays and public holidays): 255,000 rupiah per person

Komodo and Flores trip from Lombok

In my opinion, one of the best ways to reach the island of Padar and explore the other jewels in the Komodo national park is a 4-day and 3-day boat trip from Lombok. This is only practical if you are already in Lombok, but offers an excellent price-performance ratio and is one of my favorite tours in Indonesia.

This boat trip held on the way to Padar Island, Rinca Island, Komodo Island, Pink Beach and Long Beach as well as on some other snorkeling and island water cases.

If you are interested in this trip, I wrote a detailed blog here.

Diauchafari to Padar Island

It is no secret that the Komodo national park is a diving hotspot. If you are a diver who is considering a diving saver, I have found that most people plan a stopover to do the Padar Iceland hike on their travel route.

There is a wealth of diving shops that offer diving agents from anywhere for a period of 2 to 14 days of trips.

Unfortunately, I cannot comment or recommend a diving saver because I have not participated. However, I can recommend Idive Komodo because of her daily dives. They have an excellent fleet of boats, professional staff, great food and the best of everything, they are locally. This means that your money goes back to Flores and not abroad on German or Swedish bank accounts.

Photography and drones

Both the Padar Island hike and on the summit there are many ways to take breathtaking photos. If you have a wide-angle lens and want to avoid tourists with selfy stick in your recordings, I would suggest to take a few shots halfway or on the first grass-covered hill below the summit.

Can I fly my drone?

When it comes to drones, many may ask themselves; "Can I fly a drone on Padar Island?" Legally, the Komodo national park limits the flying of drones without permission throughout the park, including the island of Padar. - Apart from that, it would be difficult for you to visit Padar Island for sunrise without hearing at least a few drones.

Best time to travel for the island of Padar

The best time to visit the island of Padar and the Komodo national park is the dry season between April and November. During these months it rains less, with hot but tolerable temperatures.

The busiest time of the year is July and August and therefore it is a good option to visit Padar Island in the off -season from April to June and October to November.

During the rainy season and the first few months of dry season, the view from the Padar Island hike is a refreshing green tone. The later in the year it becomes, the padar landscape dries into an almost orange color, which in my opinion still represents a spectacular contrast to the blue ocean. The fee for the Komodo national park increases?

A viral story that has recently made the round is the dramatic increase in the entrance fee for Komodo Island. Reports indicate that the cost of visiting the island of Komodo will increase on a bonus of 1000 USD for an annual pass.

At the moment it is difficult to be sure whether these changes are made. However, there was an enormous local counter reaction, since the fee only applies to the island of Komodo and not to the surrounding islands like Padar.

If it were implemented, tourism would probably turn away from the island of Komodo in favor of the others. Regardless of this, the national park fee is not increased, and the costs for visiting the island of Padar will probably remain the same.

Are there Komodovaranes on the island of Padar?

While Padar Island used to be home to Komodovarans, this is no longer the case. The combination of lack of food and hunting distributed the dragons from Padar a few decades ago.

You don't have to look for Komodovarans on the Padar Island hike. Instead, you will find Komodovaranes on the neighboring islands, including Komodo Island, Rinca, Gili Montang and Gili Dasami.
