Luxair celebrates record profits: fleet renewal and passenger growth!
Luxembourg airline Luxair has made remarkable progress over the past year. With 2.6 million passengers transported, the company recorded an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the previous year. The increase in leisure travel was particularly pleasing, exceeding expectations at 13 percent. This positive development is also reflected in the Luxair Tours area, where there is a growth of five percent in travelers. The variety of trips on offer covers over 90 destinations, including popular destinations such as Spain, Italy and Portugal, further increasing the airline's appeal.
Luxair also achieved a nine percent increase in sales to 801 million euros in all business areas, with the exception of cargo. The company recorded its highest operating profit in the last two decades with a pleasing 10.5 million euros. In order to master future challenges, Luxair is planning a comprehensive fleet renewal, which will involve an investment of one billion euros by 2030. This measure is intended to improve processes and further expand the passenger network.
Fleet renewal and challenges
However, fleet renewal is not without challenges. Trade disputes between the EU and the USA as well as regulatory burdens complicate the process. Nevertheless, Luxair has already ordered 16 quieter and more fuel-efficient Embraer E195-E2 aircraft from the manufacturers Embraer and Boeing. Training for staff to operate these new machines has already begun.
In order to meet the high requirements, a new hangar was inaugurated in 2024 for faster maintenance. Luxair also plans to use sustainable fuel (SAF) to integrate environmental considerations into its fleet strategy. The group expects a financial dry spell for the coming year and is still planning a fleet change in order to maintain competitiveness.
Flight offers and catering services
Luxair's route network has been expanded to include Manchester in England and Brac in Croatia, bringing the number of flights to 31,000, although this is 900 flights fewer than last year. However, the higher occupancy rate shows that demand for flights has increased significantly. In addition, the number of catered meals increased by seven percent to around three million, which underlines Luxair's commitment to high service quality.
These comprehensive developments and initiatives give rise to optimism that Luxair is well positioned to meet the challenges of the aviation industry and continue to provide world-class service to its customers. For more information, see reports from People's friend and Luxair.
