Marta Bassino: After the crisis season in paradise in the Seychelles!
Italian ski superstar Marta Bassino is taking a well-deserved break in the Seychelles after a challenging World Cup season. The 29-year-old, who was born in Cuneo on February 27, 1996, has faced significant difficulties this season. Physical problems and a persistent crisis in results characterized her competitions, so that she ultimately finished without any podium finishes. Her best result was fourth place at Sun Valley.
During her stay on the beautiful beaches, Bassino shares pictures that show her radiant smile and the indescribable beauty of the surroundings. She describes her experiences in this paradisiacal setting as “enchanted”. She particularly remembers an impressive encounter with a giant tortoise. Bassino and her boyfriend Luca enjoy time by the turquoise sea and the breathtaking sunsets.
Looking back on a difficult season
In the last World Cup season, Bassino not only struggled with her form, but also experienced a setback in the Åre giant slalom, where she was disqualified due to high fluorine levels. Despite these challenges, the 1.67 meter tall athlete is known for her versatility and competes in the downhill, super-G and giant slalom disciplines. Bassino has enjoyed great success in the past, including the gold medal in the parallel slalom in 2021 and the super-G in 2023.
Her journey into the world of alpine skiing began with her World Cup debut on March 16, 2014. Since then, she has made a name for herself, with a total of seven World Cup victories, six of which came in the giant slalom. The number of her podium places is 30, with her last place being first in Crans-Montana in the downhill in 2024. Nevertheless, it should be emphasized that she has not yet been able to win a title in the overall standings; her best result was fifth place in 2020.
The coming challenges
Bassino sees the recovery in the Seychelles as an opportunity to recharge her batteries and focus on the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will take place in Italy. In the coming months, she wants to realign her focus and motivation to overcome the pressure of competition and build on previous successes.
Overall, Marta Bassino is a prime example of perseverance and commitment in elite sport, and her current experiences will certainly serve as a springboard for new successes in the future. The combination of training, recovery and last season's experience could prove crucial to their performance in the challenges ahead.
