New high-speed trains from Halle: travel to Italy and more!
In a significant collaboration, Deutsche Bahn (DB), Trenitalia and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) have announced new train connections in Europe. How People's voice reported, the first direct connections between Munich and Milan and Munich and Rome are to be put into operation first. The introduction of Italy's modern Frecciarossa high-speed trains is scheduled for the end of 2026, allowing seamless travel to Austria and Italy without transfers.
What is particularly exciting is the prospect of expanding the route network, which will be expanded to include new connections between Milan and Berlin as well as Naples and Berlin from December 2028. The city of Halle, which already has existing direct connections to Paris as well as connections to Vienna and Basel, is also taken into account.
Technical details about the new connections
The new trains are a total of 200 meters long and consist of eight cars with 462 seats, which are offered in four different comfort categories. The Frecciarossa 1000, which has been in use at Trenitalia since 2015, is used for this. To ensure that the trains can also run efficiently on the German and Austrian networks, technical adjustments are being made in collaboration with the companies Hitachi and Alstom.
After successful completion of the planned test and approval runs in Germany, Austria and Italy, two pairs of trains will initially go into operation on the new routes between Munich and Milan and between Munich and Rome.
