New high -speed trains from Halle: travel to Italy and more!

In significant cooperation, Deutsche Bahn (DB), Trenitalia and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) have announced new train connections in Europe. As Volksstimme , the first direct connections between Munich and Milan and Rome should first be put into operation. The introduction of modern Italian frecciarossa high-speed trains is planned for the end of 2026, which enables seamless travel to Austria and Italy without bypassing.

The perspective on the expansion of the route network, which is to be expanded by new connections between Milan and Berlin as well as Naples and Berlin from December 2028, is particularly exciting. For this purpose, the city of Halle is also taken into account, which already has existing direct connections to Paris and connections to Vienna and Basel.

technical details on the new connections

The new trains are 200 meters long and consist of eight cars with 462 seats that are offered in four different comfort categories. The FRECCIAROSSA 1000 is used for this, which has been in use at Trenitalia since 2015. To ensure that the trains can also run efficiently in the German and Austrian network, technical adjustments are made in cooperation with Hitachi and Alstom.

After successfully completing the planned test and approval trips in Germany, Austria and Italy, two train pairs should initially go into operation on the new routes between Munich and Milan and between Munich and Rome.
