Holidays on the farm: This is how the Maschinenring helps farmers!

Many farmers face the challenge of planning a family vacation without neglecting their agricultural obligations. The traditional forms of neighborhood help have lost their importance due to mechanization and digitalization, which makes planning even more difficult. In order to help farmers, the OÖ Maschinenring has launched a pilot project that is specifically aimed at bridging vacation and working time bottlenecks. According to the Farmer's newspaper The project offers both social and economic operational assistance by having agricultural specialists take on tasks on the farm while the farmers are away.

The Maschinenring's new prevention offer, “Animals and farms in good hands”, will start in 2024 and is intended to help farmers know that their farms are in good hands while they take a break. Roman Braun, agricultural division manager at Maschinenring, emphasizes the growing importance of specialist knowledge in dealing with modern technology. The younger generation in particular is increasingly accepting the idea of holidays in agriculture, which is opening up new perspectives for the industry.

Experiences of farmers

Karl Haslinger, a dairy farmer, is one of the first participants in the project and is planning a well-deserved vacation with his family. Christine and Anton Waldhör also report positive experiences and rave about the benefits of company assistance during their family vacations. Support in agriculture is particularly important. In 2023, a total of 1,748 operations were carried out via the Maschinenring in Austria, providing helpful support to numerous farmers in critical situations.

There is also the “Voluntary on the Farm” initiative, which makes it possible to experience rural life up close and at the same time support farming families in difficult situations. These work assignments take place primarily in the regions of Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg. In this way, volunteers provide help with everyday tasks such as haymaking, stable work and housework, while at the same time enjoying traditional cuisine and getting to know the people of the country. According to the Machine ring This not only promotes cohesion, but also offers those involved valuable insights into agriculture.

Overall, it shows that with the right support and new offers such as those from the Maschinenring, farmers are increasingly able to take a break while their farms are looked after in the best possible way.
