Art break: Veronika Schubert brings the world to Magdeburg!

The Magdeburg artist Veronika Schubert, who was born in Russia, has traveled to almost 30 countries in the last five years and created impressive sketches. She will present her travel impressions in the upcoming exhibition “Traveling through Sketchbooks” in the Intakt store in Magdeburg. The exhibition will include motifs from Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco and Turkey, among others, as well as locally inspired works such as images of Magdeburg Cathedral, the Hundertwasserhaus and her favorite kebab shop. Volksstimme reports that...

Schubert began her artistic career designing jewelry using modeling clay and eventually discovered her passion for “travel sketching”. Her highest creative moment to date was a six-month trip with her husband, covering 10,000 kilometers through Russia and Turkey. After this long journey, they initially lived with her husband's parents in Förderstedt until they found a new home in Magdeburg. While he found a job in the city, Schubert offered online painting courses.

Vernissage and workshop offers

The opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday, May 30th at 5 p.m. On the following Saturday, May 31st, Schubert invites you to a culinary trip around the world from 2 p.m., where visitors are invited to bring typical appetizers with them. On Sunday, June 1st, from 1:30 p.m., she will be offering painting workshops for children and adults in which she would like to pass on her artistic skills. The exhibition is open until June 19th on Mondays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Artistic discoveries and challenges

The experiences of other artists show how valuable drawing while traveling is. Depending on the destination, different techniques are used, as described in various works. An author who walked the Camino de Santiago from Somport to Finisterre in 2000 reflects on his travel experiences, during which he always had painting supplies with him. In his drawings he not only captures the visual impressions, but also the sounds, smells and atmosphere of the places, which gives him greater freedom of drawing. Often people don't draw directly in front of the objects so as not to get too attached to the visual impressions. Creative freedom makes it possible to capture these precious moments. Arte Ceramica reports that…

During his travels, the author created a variety of impressive drawings that serve as the basis for large-format images. Examples include works from his experiences in Mexico, Peru, Nepal and Tibet, including his first encounter with nature or cultural moments.
