Quang Nam strengthens economic ties: Successful forum in Laos!
A forum to promote trade, investment and tourism was held in Laos from May 23 to 25, 2023. The more than 400 delegates included representatives from the Ministries of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Quang Nam Province. This event was considered an important step towards the development of the East-West Economic Corridor and the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam 2025 Trade, Investment and Tourism Fair.
The forum was part of the 2025 Economic Diplomacy Program and aimed to implement the results of the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee. Delegates exchanged ideas and strategies to improve trade, tourism and investment cooperation along the East-West Economic Corridor.
Strengthening regional cooperation
During the trade fair, Quang Nam set up a 24 m² shared stand to present publications and souvenirs. The trade, investment and tourism fair attracted numerous companies from Vietnam, Laos and Thailand who showcased their local industries and products. These included agricultural products, processed foods, clothing, electronics, household appliances, industrial machinery, wooden furniture, as well as handicrafts and consumer goods.
In addition, a film about important travel destinations and Quang Nam products was shown. The exhibition also highlighted outstanding OCOP products from Quang Nam, including Ngoc Linh ginseng, fish sauce, agarwood, pepper, coconut cake and bird's nest. The aim of these presentations was to strengthen the connections between the economies of Vietnam and Laos and highlight new investment potential.
Cooperation programs and infrastructure development
Vietnam has emphasized the importance of the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) and the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle (CLV). On April 10, Nguyen Van Trung, the Vietnamese consul general in Pakse, made the comments at a forum to promote trade, investment and tourism. Representatives from 18 municipalities from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand took part in this forum and presented their potential in the areas of trade, investment and tourism.
The CLV region was created in 1999 to implement cooperation programs in border areas. The aim of the CLV initiative is to promote socio-economic development as well as combat poverty and improve connectivity. As part of the EWEC initiative, which has existed since 1998, there is a 1,450 km road that runs from Mawlamyine (Myanmar) to Da Nang (Vietnam), helping to strengthen cooperation between these countries.
These multilateral efforts aim to promote trade, investment and tourism links between countries, while making infrastructure investments in transport, port and logistics links. Overall, the Laos Forum is seen as a significant step towards improving the investment environment and attracting new projects in Quang Nam and beyond.
These initiatives provide new opportunities for Quang Nam companies to expand their markets to the four southern provinces of Laos.
