In this short guide, I describe everything you need to know about the rope slide experience at the Cetina River near Omiš, including booking a good offer and what you can expect!

First, what is a rope slide?

Basically, a rope slide (also written Zipline or Flying Fox) is a long piece of steel wire rope, which you can slide down with a steel roll. These steel wires are stretched over large distances, usually through gorges or over rivers, and on a slope, so that gravity does the whole work.

Ziplining is an amazing experience and really safe adrenaline activity. If you can find yourself in Omiš or Split, then you are lucky, because this is one of the best ZIP line tours in Europe!

About the Omiš-Zipline in the Cetina Gorge

Croatia is really a dream for adventure travelers! While there are many zipline tours in the country, Cetina's zipline polygon is one of the most famous.

In addition to the natural beauty and the incredible view, there are some reasons for this.

• A total of 8 wires form the famous Omis Zipline Polygon (picture below)
• The longest zipline is 700 meters (150 above the ground)
• total length of 2100m!

The course is located in a huge limestone gorge, which is formed by the Cetina river, the most water -rich river in Croatia and the longest Dalmatia. This river is also world famous for its remarkable karst source, which is referred to as the eye of the earth because it resembles a dragon eye from above.

The Omiš-Zipline tour takes about 3 hours, starting at the top of the lush limestone summit and slowly down the gorge into the green valley below.

Along the route crossing beautiful rivers, dense pine forests and rocky scree slopes, whereby each departure is a little different than the previous one.

is the Zipline from Omiš the longest in Croatia?

The Omiš-Zipline course in the Cetina Gorge is probably on the most beautiful ziplining location in Croatia, but is not the longest in Croatia.

The longest route is the Krk Zipline Tour on the island of Krk (Croatia's largest island). This course is 2400 m long, so only a little longer than this.

In terms of a single run, the first line on the Cetina Canyon course is the longest at over 700 meters!

There are many other places where travelers can make ziplining in Croatia. This includes the Plitvice lakes (the longest horizontal zipline in Europe), Tučepi and Dubrovnik.

How to book a Cetina-Zipline tour from Omis or Split

So how do I book?

On the last day of the Sail Croatia cruise on the Adriatic, I drove (highly recommended) in Omiš Zip-Llining. They arranged the trip, including the transport from Split to Omiš.

What you can expect on the Zipline route from Omiš

So decided to take the jump? Or maybe you need a little more motivation.

Here is a summary of my experience with the Zipline-Omiš course with photos so that you can understand what to expect. If you want to surprise it, I suggest booking the trip and skipping this section!

Starting point

The starting point for the Omiš Zipline course is in Podašpilje, which is about 15 minutes from the city of Omiš or 40 minutes from Split with the included van transport.

From here your professional guides help you with your equipment and after a short walk up the canyongrat, complete a short training session on the training area.

This is a very short cable almost at ground height.

Ziplining tip: The rule is that you always have to hold the "brake" with both hands. This brake is very sensitive. So to avoid embarrassments in your training run, try to brake gently.

Depending on the size of the group, they divided into small teams with two guides each (one at the upper and a second guide at the bottom of the slopes).

The first cable-700 meters!

The first cable is by far the wildest and most impressive descent on the entire polygon. This is the descent that makes the Zipline experience Cetina Canyon so famous. You start at the highest point of the route and slide down a 700 meter long slope in over 150 meters above the floor!

More than 7 rope slides down the canyon

I will not spoil it too much by revealing everything about this exciting experience (some things are better than surprise).

In the next two hours you will go through a number of 7 more short cables and long cables. Everyone is a little different, but here are two more who notice.

Cable number 5 - this is the slowest cable route and your professional guides offer you to drive with your friend or partner in tandem if you wish. This is great because one person takes over the braking and the other has the opportunity to film with a telephone or a GoPro if they wish.

Cable number 7 - this cable is incredible! They glide down the gorge and cross the Cetina river below. The view is incredible!

Tips for ZIP-LINING in Omis Croatia

Here are some quick tips and things you should know before you get involved in the ziplining adventure in Omiš, Croatia!

• The minimum age for the Ziplining experience is 7 years.
• The maximum weight is 140 kilograms.
• There is no high age-we had a 72-year-old lady on our course-and she loved it!
• The Ziplining tours can be booked without any problems in the more operational summer season-book in advance!
• A short walk between the cables is required. But that is by no means difficult.
• The temperatures can be very hot in summer. I recommend the tour late afternoon for the best weather (and photos).

What you should take on the Omis Ziplining Tour

You have never been ziplining? Here are a few things I recommend that you should bring.

• good shoes - trail runner, sneakers or sports shoes are suitable footwear for ziplining
• Small daily backpack - practically to stow the phone or wallet so that you do not fall out of your pocket
• water bottle - the experience lasts 3 hours. I always travel with a grayl purifying bottle (cleans tap water all over the world)
• shorts or pants - you have to wear a climbing belt, choose something comfortable (girl, I would not recommend rock or dress)
• GoPro and bracket - since your hands are busy, I recommend a helmet holder, chest bracket or bite bracket (my film material was filmed on a hero 10)

While most travelers stay in the larger city of Split, the adventure city of Omiš is a great alternative for those who are more interested in adventures than for parties.
