FC Bayern gives stars a two-week vacation before the big Club World Cup challenge!
FC Bayern Munich is facing an exciting but stressful summer as the Club World Cup looms in the USA. The team is preparing intensively for the tournament, which will begin on June 15th with the first group game against Auckland City in Cincinnati. Before that, the departure to the USA will take place on June 10th, directly after the last Bundesliga game on May 15th. Coach Vincent Kompany gave the players who are not traveling to their national teams two weeks' holiday after the championship celebrations. The affected players, including Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, Eric Dier and Sacha Boey, will return on June 5th. However, some players may have to arrive later as their national teams still have games on June 10.
The players on vacation receive individual training programs to stay fit even in recovery mode, while the focus is clearly on the best possible performance at the Club World Cup. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge emphasized the financial opportunities of the competition; revenue could reach up to 120 million euros. This importance is also underlined by the expensive contract extensions of key players such as Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies and Manuel Neuer.
Club World Cup financial incentives
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has announced the financial details of the Club World Cup. As a top European club, FC Bayern Munich can earn around $30 million, which is equivalent to around €27.8 million, through entry fees and bonuses. Additional bonuses can be added if sporting successes are achieved in the tournament. The winner of the competition can expect to win over $100 million. FIFA is distributing a total of one billion dollars for the first Club World Cup, and there are also 250 million euros in solidarity amounts for teams not taking part.
Bayern's base camp will be set up in Orlando, and the journey to Florida is also planned for June 10th. However, it remains unclear whether all players will arrive at this point or whether some will arrive later after their national team appearances. In the preliminary round, the Bayern team will not only face Auckland City, but also Boca Juniors and Benfica Lisbon, which brings additional challenges.
Dreesen emphasizes that the Club World Cup is above all a sporting challenge and not a “journey trip”. National coach Julian Nagelsmann will not take the upcoming Club World Cup games into account when selecting national players, which makes the situation even more complex for the players.
The coming weeks promise to be exciting as Bayern prepare for the important tournament, but at the same time they must not neglect their recovery.
