Burgenland inspires: record winter with over 182,000 overnight stays!
Burgenland tourism recorded an increase in international overnight stays in the winter half of the year in 2024/25, which was characterized by 182,153 overnight stays and an increase of +8.3%. This represents a new record that was particularly evident in April 2024. Dozens of international guests have visited the region and overnight stays from various countries have shown impressive increases. The largest increase came from the Czech Republic with +116.5%, followed by Slovakia with +111.4% and Germany with +55.1% during the month in question.
The importance of the German market remains as high as ever. A total of 76,643 overnight stays from Germany were recorded in the winter half-year, which corresponds to an increase of 17.2%. State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil praised the record and described the winter half-year as the strongest in the history of Burgenland.
Successful events
An outstanding event that contributed to this success was the “Winterwunder Mörbisch”, which attracted over 28,000 visitors. Managing director Didi Tunkel was positive about the results and noted that a strong visit in April compensated for the decline in March.
For the entire year 2025, i.e. from January to April, a total of 717,320 overnight stays were recorded, which corresponds to an increase of 1.3% compared to the previous year. This included 127,760 overnight stays by international guests, which corresponds to an increase of 7.2%.
Strategic goals and future outlook
In order to promote further growth, Burgenland Tourism is pursuing a comprehensive strategy that includes brand management, targeted marketing and season-extending formats. These include events such as “Anradeln”, the wine spring and the lake opening. These initiatives aim to extend seasons and strengthen regional added value.
Burgenland is proving to be an attractive travel destination and continues to position itself successfully in the national and international tourism market. How courier and Look over report that this positive trend is expected to continue, so that Burgenland can continue to enjoy strong visitor numbers in the future.
