Discover the blooming garden jewels in Kleverland!

In May, Kleverland attracts garden lovers, as numerous private gardens open their doors to visitors. This committed initiative, which has existed since 2005, is coordinated by the Wirtschaft & Tourismus Stadt Kleve GmbH and the municipality of Bedburg-Hau. Initially only three gardens were opened to the public, but today there are already 18 gardens in the northern district of Kleve that invite visitors to visit. In addition, the tropical house of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the historic gardens in Kleve and the park of Museum Schloss Moyland are part of the program. The gardens vary in size from 200 m² and place great value on sustainability and chemical-free gardening.

Special garden tours are planned this year. According to the Niederrhein Nachrichten, the gardens open on various dates, including the Deymannshof farm garden and the Jagoda garden in Rees as well as the Am Rheindeich garden in Kalkar on May 18th. Those interested can also visit the Galerie Grunewald garden in Goch on May 18th and 25th and the garden of Haus Eyl in Bedburg-Hau on May 25th. A highlight will be the Beyershof forest garden in Bedburg-Hau on May 29th, Ascension Day.

Guided tours and special attractions

On May 24th at 2:30 p.m., the WTM is organizing a special tour entitled “The New Zoo between Waldpark and Wasserburg Rindern”. Prior registration for this tour is necessary, whether online or by telephone. As part of the garden tours, many gardens also offer their guests small refreshments such as coffee, water, cookies or cake.

A particularly notable garden is the herb and bee garden of Dr. Daniela Dienst-Loth and Stefan Loth, which houses over 50 bee colonies and covers an area of 4,000 m². The focus on biodiversity and raising awareness of issues such as climate change and drought can also be seen in other gardens.

Additional events in summer

Beyond May, further garden events are also planned in June and July. On June 25th and 26th, the “Gardens in the Old Pflegerdorf” in Bedburg-Hau will open their doors, where visitors can discover the different passions of the garden owners. A visit to the “Insel Gardens Schenkenschanz” on July 3rd also promises blooming inspiration in the countryside. Entry to both events costs four euros per person.

More information about the events and the gardens can be found on the website Lower Rhine Tourism as well as on Lower Rhine News available. Garden lovers can look forward to a varied and inspiring time in Kleverland.
