Eric Frenzel: Family vacation in Athens and new coaching goals!

Eric Frenzel, the three-time Olympic champion, is currently enjoying a well-deserved break with his family in the ancient city of Athens. He visited the Greek capital with his wife and three children not only to sightsee but also to experience special family moments. The 35-year-old shares his impressions of this city trip in an Instagram video that captures his experiences.

One of the highlights of the trip is a visit to the historic Acropolis, a must for every visitor to Athens. The cultural program also included a typical Greek dinner in the picturesque old town, followed by a romantic sunset with a view of the Acropolis. Frenzel took the opportunity to also visit the Panathenaic Stadium, known as the Olympic Stadium of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

New national coach of the Nordic combined athletes

Having just returned from vacation, a new challenge awaits Eric Frenzel: the official appointment as national coach of the Nordic combined athletes. In this role, his goal is to lead his team to medals at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina. His remarkable career and experience as an athlete should be of great use to him.

Frenzel, who has his sporting roots in the WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal, can look back on an impressive career. He has been an integral part of the national squad since the beginning of his career and has worked as a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr since 2003. He was also looked after by the Bundeswehr sports support group in Frankenberg/Saxony.

His first World Cup start took place in 2007, and since then he has celebrated numerous successes, including several medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. With his victory at the 2019 World Championships in Innsbruck, he secured gold in the individual and team sprint.

A look at the impressive medal collection

Eric Frenzel has amassed an impressive medal collection over the years that shows how successful he has been in Nordic skiing. In recent years, some of his best performances have come in the following competitions:

Year Competition medal
2010 Vancouver Olympics Bronze (team)
2014 Olympic Games in Sochi Gold (normal hill)
2019 World Championships in Innsbruck Gold (single)
2023 World Championships Silver (team relay), bronze (team)

With numerous successes and a record of 18 medals, Eric Frenzel has not only conquered the hearts of his fans, but has also had a significant impact on Nordic combined events. His return to SSV Geyer and his appointment as national coach are proof of his dedication and passion for the sport.

What happens next for Frenzel remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that as a coach and mentor he will now pass on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of athletes.
