Five days full of adventure: VdK trip to the Moselle and the Vulkaneifel!

The VdK Grafenwöhr local association recently went on an exciting five-day trip to the Moselle, Luxembourg and the Vulkaneifel. The trip began with a visit to the capital Luxembourg, which the participants were able to explore with a city tour. The important sights included the Kirchberg plateau, the grand ducal palace, the grave of Captain von Köpenick, the impressive casemates and the American military cemetery, where the graves of 5,070 soldiers who died in the Battle of the Bulge are located.

After the stay in Luxembourg, the coach, driven by bus driver Günter Messer, continued its journey to Trier. The amphitheater, the imperial baths and the Porta Nigra, a former Roman city gate, were on the program here. The participants also had time to stroll around the city before having dinner at the hotel in the evening, followed by a wine tasting at the Gebr. Simon winery.

Visit to the gemstone cutting workshop

On the second day, the group was led to the Hess gemstone cutting factory in Kirschweiler, Idar-Oberstein. Here the participants gained valuable insights into gemstone processing. One of the participants was even allowed to work on the polishing machine himself, and all travelers were surprised with a small gemstone as a souvenir. We then continued to the historic old town of Bernkastel-Kues, where there was time for exploration and lunch.

In the afternoon, a boat trip on the Moselle to Traben-Trarbach was on the agenda, before the trip on the last day took us to the Vulkaneifel. There we visited the Eifelmaaren, the Manderscheid castles and the lava bomb in Strohn, an impressive basalt ball weighing 120 tons and 5 meters in diameter.

Completion of the trip

The end of the trip took place in the picturesque town of Cochem, which impressed with its impressive imperial castle and charming old town. On the way back to the hotel, the group stopped in Beilstein. The last evening was rounded off with the entertainment of “Kai with the Squeeze” before a return journey after a hearty breakfast.

The participants were very satisfied with the organization of the trip by Rudolf Haupt and the service of the hotel in Lösnich, where they were warmly welcomed by the owners Tina and her father. The various aspects of the trip, including the program, accommodation and support, were consistently rated with top marks, which further underlines the successful event.

The impressions and experiences of the participants will be remembered for a long time, while the VdK Grafenwöhr local association is already thinking about future ventures.
