Five days full of adventures: VDK trip on Moselle and the Vulkaneifel!
Cochem, Deutschland - The VdK local association Grafenwöhr recently undertook an exciting five-day trip to the Moselle, Luxembourg and the Vulkaneifel. The trip began with a visit to the capital Luxembourg, which the participants could explore with a city tour. The important sights included the plateau Kirchberg, the Grand Ducal Palace, the grave of the captain of Köpenick, the impressive casemates and the American soldier's cemetery, where the graves of 5070 soldiers of the Ardennes offensive are located.
After the stay in Luxembourg, the coach, controlled by bus driver Günter Messer, continued his journey to Trier. Here the amphitheater, the Kaiserhermen and the Porta Nigra, a former Roman city gate, were on the program. The participants also had time for a stroll through the city before they had dinner in the hotel in the evening, followed by a wine tasting in the winery Gebr. Simon.
Visit to the gemstone grinding shop
On the second day, the group was led to the Hess gemstone grinding in Kirschweiler, Idar-Oberstein. Here the participants received valuable insights into the gemstone processing. One of the participants was even allowed to work on the polishing machine themselves, and all travelers were surprised with a small gemstone as a souvenir. Then we went on to the historic old town of Bernkastel-Kues, where time for explorations and lunch.
In the afternoon, a shipping on the Moselle to Traben-Trarbach was on the program before the trip led to the Vulkaneifel on the last day. There, the Eifel Maars, the Manderscheider castles and the lava bomb in Strohn, an impressive basalt ball of 120 tons and 5 meters in diameter, were visited.

The tour of the trip took place in the picturesque city of Cochem, which delighted with its imposing Reichsburg and the charming old town. On the way back to the hotel, the group stopped in Beilstein. The last evening was rounded off by the entertainment of "Kai with the squeezing" before a return trip followed after a rich breakfast.
The participants were very satisfied with the organization of the trip by Rudolf Haupt and the service of the hotel in Lösnich, where they were warmly welcomed by the owners Tina and their father. The various aspects of the trip, including the program, accommodation and support, were evaluated with top marks, which also underlines the successful event.
The impressions and experiences of the participants will be remembered for a long time, while the VdK local association Grafenwöhr already thinks about future activities.
