Göltzschtalbrücke conquers Paris: Germany's largest brick bridge in the spotlight!

The Göltzschtal Bridge, known as the largest brick bridge in the world, is currently attracting attention in Paris. As part of the “Saxony in Paris” exhibition, an impressive photo of the bridge is part of the Saxony show in the Carrousel du Louvre shopping arcade. This exhibition features a total of 22 large-format photographs and runs until June 12, 2025. The aim is to promote tourism in the region and raise awareness of this architectural masterpiece. Free press reports that the bridge in Paris is particularly considered a symbol of the region.

The Göltzschtal Bridge is picturesquely located in the Vogtland landscape near Netzschkau and measures an impressive 574 meters in length. It spans the Göltzsch valley and impresses with a total of 98 arches and four floors. This impressive structure was built between 1846 and 1851 to secure the Leipzig-Nuremberg railway connection. Prof. Andreas Schubert from Wernesgrün was the designer of this masterpiece. The bridge is made of more than 26 million red bricks and 23,000 tree trunks that served as scaffolding and reaches a height of 78 meters. Every year around 80,000 visitors make a pilgrimage to the bridge to admire its impressive architecture. Outdooractive also offers comprehensive information about hiking and cycling trails in the area.

New website and competition

On the occasion of the exhibition and the associated promotion, the Göltzschtalbrücke support association has launched a new website. This is currently acting as a temporary measure and includes a competition to attract more visitors. The new platform aims to increase the awareness of the bridge and the attractiveness of the Vogtland.

The combination of historical significance and tourist appeal makes the Göltzschtal Bridge an important point in the region. In addition to enjoying the impressive architecture, visitors can also enjoy fantastic views from a viewing platform at the bridge's parking lot. The tourist association “Nördliches Vogtland” e. V. also offers informative lectures on bridge construction upon reservation, which deepen the understanding of this impressive structure.

Participation in the exhibition and the promotional activities in Paris are intended to help promote the Göltzschtal Bridge as a cultural heritage and to make the Vogtland's tourist attraction known beyond Germany's borders.
