New cruise terminal in the Canary Islands: millions of passengers await!
Mehmet Kutman, Chairman and CEO of Global Ports Holding, today attended the opening ceremony of two new cruise terminals in Lanzarote. This important inauguration was realized in collaboration with local partner Secan and the Port Authority of Las Palmas. An additional cruise terminal was also inaugurated in Fuerteventura. The new facilities are expected to help the Canary Islands welcome over a million cruise passengers annually.
The Canary Islands are a popular cruise destination due to their mild climate, especially in the winter months, making them a preferred stop for travelers. Global Ports Holding highlights that Las Palmas is not only considered an important cruise port, but also a year-round travel destination. Located on the north-eastern coast of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas is the island's largest city with excellent international flight connections.
Attractions and infrastructure
Las Palmas not only offers sandy beaches and turquoise water, but also numerous cultural attractions. The port itself has four berths with a total length of 1,615 meters and there is no limit to the maximum dimensions of ships that can dock there. These factors make Las Palmas an attractive location for cruise ships from all over the world.
In 2022, Global Ports Holding was selected as the preferred partner for the 40-year management of the Las Palmas Cruise Port. Plans for future investment in the port include the construction of a new sustainable terminal. This project aims to further improve the guest experience and create new opportunities for local players, which is expected to promote the region's economic growth.
