How do you get to the Spring Creek Falls?
Spring Creek Falls is deep in the Mowbray Valley, just 20 minutes by car from Port Douglas. If you arrive from Cairns, you have to plan a ride of just over an hour on the Captain Captain Captain Captain Captain Captain Captain Captain Capta Highway North on the most scenic trip.
No matter which direction you come, you have to navigate to the Spring Creek Road Road. This road can be reached via the Trezise Road away from Captain Cook Highway, only 15 kilometers south of Port Douglas.

The ascent to the Spring Creek If, if if there is no defined path, but winds along the Spring Creek to the upper waterfalls. While there are sections in which you notice a worn track, you will probably jump, jump, climb and crawl over the rocky shores on a random course until the waterfall. If you have difficulty finding your way, I have also attached a GPX file below that show my route. Just remember that this hike can be very dangerous after heavy rain and especially in the rainy season.
While you will probably cross the stream several times, I never had to take off my shoes once, as there are flat sections during most of the stream.

step by step
Starting, the first section of the hike to the Spring Creek if a wide 4WD driveway to the river bank follows. It is very difficult to get lost because you have the stream as a reference for the entire hike. However, I would suggest staying on the right side of the stream. Also look for ligaments on the trees that show the best routes around annoying rock sections. These ligaments also show the best places for crossing.
You will also find that there is a lot of tree crash on this hike, so it is more of a full body training than a gentle walk!

If you arrive at a large clearing with the first obvious deep swimming hole, keep your stream to the right. The stream then begins to climb the mountain and the boulders start to grow bigger. On this last section you may have to cross the river a few times. However, if you reach the very steep section in front of the most important cascade so far, go to the right and climb the roots of the steep slope up to the right. From here it is only a few minutes to the Spring Creek Falls.

Avoid temptation to stop early and to be satisfied with one of these smaller waterfalls or swimming holes. Spring Creek Falls (Black Rock Falls) is definitely worth the reward and an unforgettable sight! Don't worry, you will know that you have arrived when you see the huge cascade in the rugged amphitheater that is shown below.

Main waterfall and swimming hole
As I mentioned above, there is no if and but whether they have arrived at the main waterfall. Spring Creek Falls, or Black Rock Falls, is a huge cascade that falls down an almost vertical rock wall of at least 50 meters!
Below the waterfall is a deep swimming hole that is an excellent reward after you have climbed all these boulders. This makes it a perfect place to relax and swim. I wouldn't worry about crocodiles here either - it should be an adventurous reptile to find the way to this waterfall!
