Future of South Tyrolean tourism: Young hosts demand support!

On June 8, 2025, the annual general meeting of the Hoteliers and Innkeepers Youth (HGJ) took place in Maretsch Castle in Bolzano, an important event for the future of South Tyrolean tourism. The meeting focused on topics such as looking back on the past year, the economic conditions and the appreciation of the young generation in the hospitality industry. HGJ chairman Daniel Schölzhorn called for increased recognition and fair conditions for the young hosts who are ready to take responsibility and maintain the quality of South Tyrol as a tourism location.

The President of the Hoteliers and Innkeepers Association (HGV), Manfred Pinzger, emphasized the economic and social importance of tourism. State Governor Arno Kompatscher criticized the negative public portrayals of the sector and emphasized its importance for the common good. State Tourism Councilor Luis Walcher also highlighted the role of the HGJ as an important partner for the further development of young South Tyroleans and referred to the 2026 Winter Olympics as an opportunity for the country.

Promoting exchange

The HGJ has set itself the goal of promoting exchange between young hoteliers and innkeepers. This initiative not only includes the discussion of common concerns, but also exciting leisure activities. The organization offers hotel tours, educational trips, conferences and numerous specialist events to strengthen the exchange of knowledge among members. In addition, the #yourchance campaign informs young people in 2nd and 3rd middle school about opportunities in the hotel and hospitality industry.

The information provided on work areas and training paths in South Tyrol enables young people to gain a well-founded insight into the industry. The HGJ would like to address particularly dynamic and energetic people and offer them a forum to actively participate in shaping their future in the hospitality industry.

A social gathering

After the meeting there was a convivial get-together with a buffet prepared by Anton Dalvai. In addition to the HGJ representatives, those present also included HGV board members and members of the state government, who took the opportunity to exchange ideas about the current challenges and opportunities in tourism.

Further information about the youth hoteliers and innkeepers is available on the HGJ website, where young interested people can contact HGJ coordinator Manuela Holzhammer Maier. She can be reached by telephone on 0471 317 999 or by email at info(at)hgj.it. Additionally, the website www.hgj.it offers comprehensive information for anyone interested in a career in hospitality.

In summary, it can be said that the HGJ's annual general meeting not only offered a look back at the past, but also highlighted important perspectives for the future of South Tyrolean tourism. The initiative by HGJ and HGV is an important step to attract young talent and develop the industry, promising a sustainable and prosperous future for the hospitality industry.
