About TakTak Falls

Taktak Falls Entrance Fee: PHP 25 + PHP 10 for motorcycle parking

taktak Falls is an approximately 14 meter high waterfall in the north of Siargao Island. Although it is a bit of a mission to reach this place, I would say it is worth it as you can see many other Siargao highlights along the way.

These include:

  • Der Palmen-Aussichtspunkt
  • Siargao gebogene Palme
  • Kokosstraße
  • Die Tayangban-Höhle
  • Magpupungko-Felsbecken
  • Der verlassene Leuchtturm
  • Pacifico & Alegria-Strand

I'll go into detail below about how to get here and a bit more about what to expect.

Where is TakTak Falls

taktak Falls is located at the northern end of Siargao, much closer to the emerging tourist hub of Pacifico than General Luna.

As you can see above, there is plenty to do and see along the way. So a road trip is worth it.

Below I have recorded the exact location of thetaktak waterfall to make it easier for you to find it in Siargao Island.

How to get to this Siargao waterfall?

Since it's a bit off the beaten path in the far north of Siargao, there's only one way to get totaktak falls. This means renting a motorcycle (scooter) and driving here yourself. Expect to drive about 1.5 hours from General Luna to reach the waterfall.

You can pick up a motorbike in General Luna for between 250 and 350 pesos per day, which is great value for money.

If you're staying in General Luna, I'd suggest just typing the pin above into Google Maps and let it direct you there. There are a few confusing signs once you get close, but the needle is accurate.

Thetaktak falls are just one highlight that you can experience on the long drive north. For this reason, I would suggest planning a day trip to make the most of the trip.

Below is what we did (in order).

  • Sonnenaufgang am Palm Tree Lookout
  • Am frühen Morgen an den Magpupungko Rock Pools
  • Tak-Tak-Fälle
  • Der verlassene Leuchtturm
  • Nachmittag am Strand von Pacifico und Alegria
  • Sonnenuntergang auf der berühmten Siargao Palm Tree Road

Alternative: Siargao Land Tour (Highlights)

I understand that 1.5 hours of motorcycling in Siargao is not for everyone. Unfortunately, you can't currently book many guided tours that include a visit to thetaktak waterfall.

However, if you fancy a budget trip that includes most of the best activities in Siargao, then check out the Land Tour. This is one of the most booked tours on the island and includes a number of highlights you'll definitely want to see.

What to Expect at TakTak Falls

Once you finally arrive at Taktak Falls, you will notice that there is a built-up, man-made area directly above the waterfall. There is a hut here where you have to pay the entrance fee of 25 pesos for thetaktak falls, plus 10 more to park your bike.

It's not a long walk down to thetaktak waterfall, instead you'll find it just behind the hut. On the left side of the river, a concrete path leads to the swimming area below the falls.

While I personally think Taktak Falls is pretty great, a lot of people are underwhelmed. I think it's because they might be expecting that Gatorade blue color that you find at other Philippine waterfalls like Kawasan Falls in Cebu.

Instead, the waterfall attaktak falls has a duller, browner river water color. It may not be the most picturesque waterfall in the world, but it is a lot of fun.

Tree jump at TakTak waterfall

The biggest highlight for me was the arched tree jump into the pool beneath the falls.

We always check the depth before jumping and were surprised to find that it is actually quite shallow, with large boulders in some sections. However, we found that there were some deep sections that were easily deep enough to jump in without touching the ground. We were lucky enough to have some local kids (10 years old max) who showed us where to jump and impressed us with their backflips.

How long to spend at Siargao Waterfall?

We spent just under an hour at Taktak Falls, which I think is probably longer than most people spend. We had too much fun jumping from the tree and taking photos of the waterfalls!

I would say you can easily spend around 30 minutes here and be happy with the trip. Still, for most people this probably doesn't justify the long drive here, which is why I recommend checking out all the other highlights too!
