King Charles and Queen Camilla have decided for their summer vacation in Balmoral, Scotland , a retreat for its beautiful nature and privacy. The castle, which is located on the River Dee below the Lochnagar mountain, has been owned by the British monarchy since the 1840s and not only represents a vacation home, but is also an important historical building.

King Charles and Queen Camilla traditionally travel in August, enjoy walks, picnic, rides as well as hunting and fishing in Balmoral. The family often spends time there and occasionally invites Prince William and Princess Kate, who spend their summer vacation in Norfolk, Norfolk, on the Sandringham estate. Balmoral: A historical retreat

Balmoral Castle has a long history. Originally built by Sir William Drummond in the 14th century, it was discovered in 1848 by King Victoria and Prince Albert as a holiday home and later acquired by Albert. The impressive building was rebuilt until 1855 under the Scottish architect William Smith and consists of two three-storey, interconnected square structures that are built in a Scottish baronial style.

The castle comprises over 70 rooms and is surrounded by an extensive country seat with an area of around 243 km². This region was already a hunting area for the Scottish monarchs in the 14th century. The whole family lives in Balmoral during the summer months, and the royal apartments are ready to return.
