Bob's Cove Track Queenstown

Bob's Cove Track Queenstown

Bob’s Cove Track Queenstown is an easily accessible coastal hiking trail with epic views of the turquoise bay and the incredible Lake Wakatipu.

For those who are looking for a quick and simple coastal path with a breathtaking sea view, Bob’s Cove Track Queenstown is the best hiking path in the city. I say that because it is only a short 20-minute walk for prospects that are probably more impressive than other popular routes like Queenstown Hill.

Where is Bob’s Cove?

Bob’s Cove is about 14 kilometers from Queenstown near the sharp bend of the Lake Wakatipu.

The wide bay is protected from most winds due to the increased hill and the surrounding tree line.

How do you come to Bob’s Cove Queenstown?

like most places on New Zealand's South Island, which are worth a visit, Bob’s Cove Track is best accessible by car.

Depending on the traffic around the lake shore, it should only take about 15-20 minutes to achieve it. The trip to Bob’s Cove follows one of the most scenic trips in the world; The Glenorchy to the Queenstown Road. There is only one street to Glenorchy, so follow the signs there and look for the sign for the Bob’s Cove parking lot on the left.

When you drive this route for the first time, you will be happy.

During my time in Queenstown I moved in a Spaceship van that I can highly recommend. After swimming and hiking in Bob’s Cove, we drove over to the 12 Mile Delta for an epic golt-inspired camping.

Is there a bus from Queenstown to Bob’s Cove?

Unfortunately, from 2020 there is no direct public bus connection from Queenstown to Bob’s Cove. This means that, in order to get here without their own means of transport from Queenstown, you either have to stretch a thumb or rent a bike.

Hiking and swimming in Bob’s Cove

After you have parked in Bob’s Cove, you have a few ways to do something. On a warm summer day, Bob’s Cove is the perfect place to cool off in the ridiculously turquoise water. There are also a few tracks that meander around the bay, and one that leads to 12 Mile Delta.

If you want a quick but worthwhile vantage point, then I would definitely recommend going along the scope of the bay and following the signs to Picnic Hill.

Bob’s Cove-Out viewpoint

Bob’s Cove Track Queenstown starts at the parking lot and leads down into the local Busch and leads down to the edge of the bay.

Follow the signs to the "Picnic Point" and walk about 20 minutes on foot until you reach the tip of Bob’s Cove Lookout, where in my opinion you have reached one of the best viewpoints on the coast of Lake Wakatipu.
