Adventure on two wheels: Motorcycle trip to Yellowstone National Park!

An exciting motorcycle journey began on October 11, 2025, starting at Edge Powersports in Salt Lake City. The first stage took I-80 to the Wasatch Mountains, where bikers could enjoy breathtaking views of autumn landscapes with aspen, birch and deer. A special detour to Park City, known for its mining past and Olympic tradition, brought additional fascination to the first day of travel.

For the more adventurous, an off-road route along the Liberty Avon Road, which is 20 kilometers long and ideal for large touring enduro bikes, has been included in the specifications of this stage. At the end of the day, the travelers reached Logan, a college town with 52,000 residents that served as a stopover.

Requirements and equipment

The bikers relied on the SW-Motech PRO rear bag with a volume of 22 to 34 liters and a weight of just 1.8 kg. The bag is made of 1680D Ballistic Nylon and is equipped with a non-slip base for a stable hold on the motorcycle. The MOLLE top allows you to attach additional accessories. On the second day of the trip we went on a 305 kilometer drive to Bear Lake, where the altitude reached 2,638 meters.

The Franklin Basin Road took bikers into Idaho, where forest areas and gravel sections graced the path. A visit to Montpelier, a historic hub on the Oregon Trail, offered exciting insights into the past. The off-road experience was complemented by trails with a difficulty level of 4 out of 10.

The destination Yellowstone National Park

The third leg of the journey spanned 320 kilometers and consisted of a combination of gravel roads and steep ramps. The bikers were able to reach an average speed of 58 km/h, with maximum speeds of over 70 miles per hour and temperature differences of 1°C to 25°C. The route led through the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, where the landscape was constantly changing.

Eventually, the travelers reached Yellowstone National Park, the world's first national park, founded in 1872. Covering 3,500 square miles, this park is home to over 500 active geysers, including the famous Old Faithful. The sightings of bison in the park made this part of the trip unforgettable.

The technology of the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE

The bikers rode two Suzuki V-Strom 800 DEs equipped with Dunlop Trailmax Raid tires. These tires provide excellent traction on both gravel and asphalt and have an estimated mileage of approximately 5,000 to 7,000 km. The V-Strom 800DE has a powerful 776 cm³ engine that delivers 84 hp and has a consumption of 4.5 l/100 km. The motorcycle's chassis offers both stability and comfort with 220 mm of travel.

Finally, the final stage went through Idaho, where the bikers circled 34 peaks over 3,000 meters and encountered abandoned ghost towns and river crossings. After 300 km of driving, 80% of which was on gravel, they spent the night in Boise before completing the return journey via Salt Lake City. With future tours in mind, they have already made plans to create full GPS tracks from Mexico to Canada.

For the spirit of adventure, the 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE and 800DE Adventure were introduced in 2023, now unchanged for 2024 with new color options. The 776cc parallel-twin engine delivers 83 hp at 8,500 rpm. The models are particularly popular with midrange adventure bikes.

The Cycle World further documents that the V-Strom 800DE has excellent equipment, which also includes a Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). This system offers three riding modes, a four-stage traction control system and a quickshifter that makes driving easier both off-road and on-road.

The overall picture of this trip is completed by the captivating landscapes, challenging routes and the equipment of the motorcycles, making the adventure an unforgettable experience.
