Albania suffers: high prices and few tourists from Kosovo!
Albania's tourism-dependent economy is facing challenges that are reflected in a noticeable decline in the number of visitors. According to information from Gazeta Express There were 120 fewer tourists from Kosovo this year, which represents a significant drop in this important group of visitors.
Economic experts point to several causes that contribute to the current situation in the tourism sector. Particularly noteworthy are the inadequate infrastructure and the high prices, which deter travelers. The economic expert Muço criticizes, among other things, the spartan waste incineration and emphasizes the need to improve the infrastructure in order to increase the country's attractiveness.
Price increases and their effects
The analysis shows that average prices increased by 12 to 20 percent during the summer tourist peak season in southern Albania. According to expert Çoçoli, this price development could lead to a review of the pricing policy. He warns that the high prices could deter potential foreign visitors, negatively impacting overall sales in the tourism sector.
Muço believes that while the government can address some of the problems, it is not solely responsible for the predicament. A central point in his argument is the high level of informality in the tourism sector, which could prevent the government from responding directly to the challenges.
Growth figures in the tourism sector
Despite the difficulties, there are also positive signals. July saw an increase of just 0.3 percent compared to the same month last year, indicating that Albania's tourism sector still holds up to some extent, but continued improvement appears to be urgently needed.
In summary, the integration of environmental concerns into urban planning, as set out in the guidelines of the Federal Environment Agency proposed is of great importance to promote sustainable tourism development in Albania.
It remains to be seen how quickly and effectively the government and private players will respond to the challenges in order to boost tourism again and ensure the country's attractiveness.
