Yacht Club Games has thrilled fans with the announcement of its new game, Mina the Hollower, set to release on October 31, 2025. The title follows the main character Mina, a famous inventor and “hollower” who wants to free an island affected by a supernatural curse. The game is presented in an immersive 8-bit style, inspired by the Gameboy Color era, and promises a nostalgic gaming experience reminiscent of old Zelda games. The game's first unveiling took place during the Summer Game Fest, where a colorful, retro-stylized trailer was released, highlighting the graphics and gameplay that provide an action-adventure game.
The gameplay of Mina the Hollower is designed in a variety of ways. Players can jump, dig, and avoid enemies and other dangers through various zones. Mina has the ability to burrow into the ground, resulting in varied platforming sections and an extensive world map for target selection. Yacht Club Games emphasizes that the game will offer a variety of options for different playstyles, including an arsenal of weapons with different movesets and unusual sidearms that enrich combat.
Extensive features and retro flair
The game impresses with its authentic 8-bit graphics, which have been modernized to refine the gaming experience. NAT games reports that the animations are detailed and players can expect solid control options. Additionally, an electrifying MSX-style soundtrack by Jake Kaufman will accompany players throughout the adventure. The story, inspired by Victorian Gothic horror, promises a large, dark world full of secrets and challenging combat.
What's particularly exciting is the ability to collect and equip Trinkets to create various effects, adding additional depth to the gameplay. For those who would like to test the game in advance, Yacht Club Games has released a time-limited demo on Steam, part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest from June 9th to 16th, 2025. Mina the Hollower will be released for multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
It's also worth mentioning that Mina the Hollower was originally announced in 2022 via a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $1 million, clearly underlining the high expectations of players.
