Bachfest 2025 in Leipzig: Transformation through sound and augmented reality!

Leipzig, Deutschland - The Bachfest Leipzig 2025 takes place from June 12th to 22nd and is under the motto "Transformation". With over 200 planned events, the festival is intended to present both traditional concerts and experimental formats. Director Prof. Dr. Michael Maul already announced numerous top -class concerts that will enrich the program. Particular attention is paid to the thematic design, which deals with forming processes in Bach's work and his examination of contemporary music. The festival's concerts are funded by the city of Leipzig, the Free State of Saxony and the Sparkasse Leipzig. More information is on theWebsite of the Bach Festival Leipzigto find.

Among the highlights of the festival can be found two special projects: "Bach's Faust", which is performed in the historic Auerbach's basement, and a fascinating presentation by Johann Sebastian Bach by augmented reality in 24 conversation concerts. Bach's cantatas, which deal with profound topics such as transience, death and eternal life, will also be experienced in a series of performances in the Thomas Church and the Nikolaikirche. Renowned conductors such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Diego Fasolis will be involved in the concerts.

New interpretations and formats

The Bachfest 2025 will explore numerous new forms to bring Johann Sebastian Bach's legacy into the here and now. For example, the "Queer Passion", a new extension of Thomas Höft's Johannes Passion, is presented. In addition, the performance of "The Arabic Passion", a modern interpretation of Bach's passions, should appeal to the audience. The Singspiel "Bach's Faust", which combines Goethe's Faust with Bach's music and performed with Burghart Klaußner, also promises an exciting experience.

Another innovative format is the so-called "Bachstage", which offers free open open-air concerts on the opening weekend. The first concert with the Bridges Chamber Orchestra will take place on June 13th at 6:30 p.m.

Sustainability in focus

This year the Bachfest will also pay particular attention to sustainability. The “climate pass” is introduced to compensate for the festival's CO2 footprint. This measure includes donations for the "Bach forest", with the aim of awakening a awareness of the topics of sustainability and transformation from the audience. The term "transformation" is not only artistic, but also in the context of current challenges in the global economy, such as the use of renewable energies. Many of Bach's compositions are shaped by similar transformation processes, which makes this year's motto particularly relevant.

In summary, the Bachfest Leipzig 2025 promises a variety of inspiring events and projects that celebrate Bach's heir and at the same time offer new perspectives on its music and their relevance for today. In this sense, the festival will again be a highlight in the cultural calendar and a platform for innovative musical experiences.
