Anse Cocos is located on the east side of the island of La Digue on the Seychelles.

You will find it north of Grand Anse Beach. However, there is no road to get here, so you have to select one of the options below.

How to get to the Anse Cocos on La Digue

The unique of this remote tropical bay is that you cannot ride your bike or take a taxi here. Instead, they have two options, both contain picturesque jungle hikes. Both are contained in my guide to the 6 best hikes on La Digue.

don't miss the most beautiful beach in La Digue: Anse Marron (secluded)

Option 1: Short trail from Grand Anse

The first option is the simplest and instructions are not required. What you want to do is to go to Grand Anse Beach, which can be reached via an asphalt inland road. The best way to move is to simply rent a bike for 100 SCR a day, to insert the Google Maps-PIN and enjoy the journey.

As soon as you have arrived in Grand Anse, you should take the short jungle path directly behind the beach to the north. Almost immediately you pass a beautiful flat lagoon with unique granite rocks. Follow this path over the headland and down to the Petite Anse.

from Petite Anse the path is very obvious towards Anse Cocos. It quickly deviates from the sandy beaches and winds through a picturesque, flat jungle area. It may look like they are going towards the mountains, but don't worry. Soon the path cut off to the right and climbs another small headland before he descends to the southern end of the beautiful Anse Cocos.

There are sections at the end that look like they are leading to the water. However, if there is still a path that leads to the left and follows the jungle, continue on it until it leads down to the sand.

Option 2: Jungle Path + Viewption Romeo & Julia

If you want a longer, epic adventure with the best viewpoint of the island, then consider this route.

There is an unnamed path that leads from the mountainous street to the Belle Vue restaurant (path to Nid d’Aigle), which cuts out the east side of the country of La Digue and ends at Anse Cocos. On the way you stop at a viewpoint with a controversial name. Many call it the viewpoint of Romeo and Julia on La Digue, but apparently the name is controversial.

I went this path with my guide named Henry, so I will not give up his secret path (he calls the viewpoint to his secret "unique viewpoint"). However, I would strongly recommend calling it if you want to go this way. Henry has spent his whole life on the island and is very well informed about everything, from the history of the Seychelles to endemic animal and plant species. If you don't get a guide, you can get lost easily, as there are many unmarked, distracting paths in this part of the jungle that are used by wooden fellers.

What you expect after your arrival

While some of the popular beaches like Anse Source d’Argent are undeniable breathtaking, sometimes they only want to escape the crowds. Lonely nature at its finest is of course what you are rewarded with when you take the trouble to get out of anse cocos.

This beach is a long white sandy beach that is surrounded by a fairly well -protected bay. At the southern end of the beach you will find a small beach bar called "Coco Bar". The people who work here are great and cut a few delicious tropical fruits after the long hike.

The beach is generally great for swimming. It is quite flat near the shore, but quickly falls into the deep blue. You have to be a safe swimmer because strong tides and waves can occur.

Anse Cocos Natural swimming pool (Pointe Anse Cocos)

One of the highlights that really make Anse Cocos one of the best beaches on La Digue is the natural swimming pool. If you continue north on the beach, you will quickly find out what I'm talking about.

This is by far one of the best swimming spaces on the island. Large granite rocks run together on the headland and form a naturally protected pool. You have to see the water color here to believe it. If the flood or waves on the beach are too rough, then the natural swimming pool from Anse Cocos is just the thing for you.

Where to spend the night on La Digue

la Digue is a fairly small island and you can get anywhere within 20-30 minutes. You will find many hotels on the west side of the island near the jetty, but only a few along the narrow coastal road on the mostly inhabited east side.

on La Digue there is a large selection of hotel and resort offers that range from relatively "budget-friendly" self-catering lodges to incredible luxury resorts.

Below you will find a short summary of the best tips.

More: The 9 best accommodations, resorts & hotels on La Digue.

Amazing Chateau: Hotel Chateau St Cloud (mid -range) in the Chateau St Cloud I stayed on La Digue and I can personally recommend it as one of the best accommodation opportunities on the island. This three-star hotel is perfect as a mid-range option because the location is excellent-just a little outside the main quarter in a quiet street, which is close enough to the incredible beaches in the southwest and port. The employees are all very courteous and the breakfast buffet is great. The rooms are very spacious and the hotel even has a pool and a bar.

Hotel am Water: Le Nautique (high-end) as one of the best accommodations on the water on La Digue, Le Nautique is a luxurious offer that combines traditional Creole architecture with modern comfort such as king-size and rain showers. Here you can also discover a fantastic outdoor restaurant and a beautiful garden environment.

Self -catering: Dream Holiday (Budget) Dream Holiday Self Catering is located at the northern end of the island, very close to the ferry terminal. This location is great because they are near bicycle rows, snack shops and even supermarkets on the main street of La Digue. Dream Holiday offers queen rooms with air conditioning, TV, own bathroom and even a balcony. This is a great option when you visit La Digue with a small budget, while comfort and location still have a priority for you.
