Swiss tourism is on the move: new Destination Lab” network founded!

Over 25 Swiss destinations have come together to found the new association “Destination Lab”. The main purpose of this association is the exchange of experiences and the development of future-oriented solutions for tourism. The initiative is based on the Innotour project of the same name, which was launched in spring 2022. The association is managed by Gut und gut GmbH and is intended to promote the transfer of knowledge between Swiss Destination Management Organizations (DMOs). The members want to realize innovative projects together and exchange best practices.

The participating destinations include prominent places such as Gstaad, Crans Montana, Montreux, Basel, Zurich, Lucerne, St. Gallen, the Engadin and Davos. Stefan Sieber from Engadin Tourism will act as president of the association. The association organizes regular ERFA meetings, which not only promote dialogue between members, but also offer the opportunity to learn from each other and develop solutions together.

Goals and structures of the association

The Destination Lab has set itself the goal of increasing the level of innovation in tourism. It is particularly aimed at employees in guest information and product development. The program based on the Tourist Office Lab concept includes various pilot projects in the areas of product development and tourist guest information. These projects make it possible to test ideas and implement small projects with little administrative effort.

The members of the Destination Lab also benefit from an exchange via a digital platform as well as the personal ERFA meetings that take place regularly. These meetings offer participants the opportunity to exchange experiences and find solutions together. A special highlight for members will also be the international trend newsletter, which is produced by the Valais Tourism Observatory.

Partnerships and financial support

The design and further development of the Destination Lab takes place in close collaboration with the participating destinations. Partners in the project include renowned institutions such as the FHGR, HSLU, HES-SO Valais-Wallis, as well as Switzerland Tourism and the Swiss Parks Network. Financial support of CHF 500,000 will be provided for the project duration from 2023 to 2025.

Another innovative element is the digitalization computer that has been developed, which is available to tourism players free of charge. This calculator is intended to help include internal efforts in decision-making processes and increase efficiency.

Overall, the Destination Lab offers a valuable platform for the exchange and development of innovative ideas in Swiss tourism, which is strengthened through collaboration and sharing expertise. htr.ch reports that this commitment opens up numerous opportunities for members. The initiative could therefore be groundbreaking for the future of Swiss tourism seco.admin.ch underlines the importance of networking and knowledge exchange in the industry.
