125 years of the paddle steamer Kaiser Wilhelm”: Celebrate with us on the Elbe!
On June 6, 2025, the paddle steamer “Kaiser Wilhelm” will begin its annual trip to Dresden to celebrate its 125th anniversary. This special event will take place from June 6th to 23rd and will offer passengers the opportunity to experience this historic ship, built between 1899 and 1900 at Dresdner Maschinenfabrik und Schiffswerft AG. The first launch took place on May 20, 1900. The paddle steamer is emphasized as one of the last of its kind and travels at a speed of almost 21 km/h using 150 kg of hard coal per hour. Special moments of the trip are the arrival in Dresden on June 14th around 4:30 p.m. and the opportunity to visit the museum ship on June 15th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Duchy directly reported.
The trip starts in the home port of Lauenburg/Elbe and leads through the UNESCO Elbe Biosphere Reserve. During the outward journey, the daily stages can be booked individually, while the return journey is offered as a package tour. There are concerns about low water levels, which is why the trip was planned before summer. Captain Markus Reich and his team are looking forward to this unique journey. While the journey takes you through picturesque landscapes, the “Kaiser Wilhelm” houses the only ship’s post office on a German inland vessel, which makes the journey even more attractive.
The special round trip to Magdeburg
Following the celebrations in Dresden, the “Kaiser Wilhelm” will once again be in focus when it begins a journey from Dresden to Magdeburg on June 20, 2025. This special trip offers a first leg to Torgau with a short stay before continuing to Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Here you will stay overnight in a hotel. On June 21st, the second leg takes place by steamer to Magdeburg, followed by dinner on the sidewheel tug steamer Württemberg.
